Melwell College exists to educate compassionate and heart-centered professionals to co-create a better world for current and future generations.
Our mission is to empower women's choices and improve birth outcomes for women and their babies. We do this by educating doulas who provide compassionate labour support through a community of care.
Melwell College understands that the needs of our future doulas are unique. That is why we empower our student's success by providing flexible choices that suit their lifestyle and learning needs. Our doula students can either learn online or in-person at one of our workshops.
We believe that together we can support the women in our communities and improve their birth experiences and outcomes.
WHAT IS A DOULA?
A "doula" is someone who serves others by providing compassionate support and care during times of significant life change and transition. When supporting women and families, doulas serve as birth doulas or postpartum (postnatal) doulas.
A Professional Birth Doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support to mothers and their partners during labour and birth, advocating for the mother to ensure that her birth choices are honoured.
A postpartum doula supports families after the birth of a new baby (or babies!) to ensure a positive family transition and promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of the mother and her family.
Studies show improved birth outcomes for mothers and their babies when births are supported by a birth doula. And mothers report a better birth experience when they are supported by the care of a doula.
